Andy Rourke

Andy Rourke (born January 17, 1964) was an English musician best known as the bassist for the influential band The Smiths, which was active from 1982 to 1987. Rourke's playing style featured melodic and intricate bass lines that complemented the band's jangly guitar sound, contributing significantly to their distinctive aesthetic. Notable works include The Smiths' albums *The Smiths* (1984), *Meat Is Murder* (1985), *The Queen Is Dead* (1986), and *Strangeways, Here We Come* (1987). Hits like "This Charming Man," "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out," and "Panic" showcased his innovative approach to bass guitar. After The Smiths disbanded, Rourke collaborated with various artists, including Sinéad O'Connor and Morrissey, and formed the band Freebass with Peter Hook and Gary Mounfield.
